Week 10A

Today in class, we looked at each others' Visual Inventories. I received some useful advice on the overall concept, color, and theme, which is to include the same tone as the Ronald McDonald House Charities, which is mature, trustworthy, and shows interaction between people in the imagery. The color scheme from the Chester Zoo was chosen simply because of the green, which is an organic color. It was suggested that I don't necessarily have to use a heartwarming feeling since the organization isn't exactly aimed toward a critical subject. No matter what, I am including my three touch points at the top of the page, and the Mission below that, since I feel those are the most important aspects of introducing the organization.

Homework:

-Finish 2 sets (home and sub pages) of responsive wireframes in Axure for next class (one set traditional, one set minimalistic or experimental)

Week 9 Outside of Class

This week outside of class I worked on completing my visual inventory. I was a bit split on one concept, color, and tone, so I chose two for each category, and will see what my classmates and professor think will be the best to chose from.

Week 9B

Today in class, we were given time to work on our visual inventories. I spent the majority of the time researching different websites to include as inspiration, and figuring out how exactly I want the website to look like. I feel like there are two different tones and color themes that the website could take on. It could be heartwarming with an organic color theme, or playful. While I didn't get a lot of the Visual Inventory done in class, I have gathered enough research and inspiration to begin constructing it over the weekend.

Week 9A

Today in class we gathered in small groups to discuss our research on the website. Luckily, the coordinator of the Garden Project called me just as we started to discuss my site and provided me with some very useful information about the organization and website.

She told me that the main target audience, or users to the website are people looking for volunteering opportunities, wanting to donate land for gardening, or schools looking to enroll their under-privileged students in the program. This gave me my three touchpoints for the website which are: Donate, Volunteer, and Join Us. The purpose of the organization is to prevent childhood diabetes and obesity by teaching responsibility about health, growing food, and teaching parents and children about gardening. She said that the website also needs to be updated, as the latest new post is from 2012.

Afterwards, I returned to my partner, and she agreed with me on the touch points that I should include.

Homework:
- Create a Visual Inventory (refer to http://danielmall.com/articles/visual-inventory/)
- show Concept, Color, and Tone
**Due 3/30**

- figure out 2 key touchpoints for site (DONE)

Week 8: Outside of class

This week outside of class, I wrapped up and submitted my final website after making some adjustments as requested from the critique last class. Then, I began the next phase of the project as mentioned in the previous post. I tried to reach Darlene, the coordinator of the Charleston Area Children's Garden Project, but was unable to reach her and will try again.

Week 8B: March 18

Today in class we had a full critique of our subpages and adjustments made to homepage. Everyone was satisfied with the changes I have made since our homepage critique, and enjoyed the layout of my schedule in terms of how easy it would be to read on mobile, as I mentioned in my last post. Some helpful suggestions I received includes:

- change dropdown for 2016 Show (2016 Show is shown twice in tablet and mobile version, but is fine in desktop for some reason)

- change size of links
- change date images to dynamic text (better for google searches)
- eliminate lines between date layers
- change color of pig icon under top image (blends in with image, hard to see)
- ADD FAVICON

Week 8A: March 16

Today in class, my professor looked at my subpage, and steered me in the right direction with figuring out how to design my schedule more creatively. It was also suggested to not use the image slider on the subpage since it is already seen on the home page, and instead just use a still image. Below you will see the adjustments I made to the website in preparation for the final critique on Wednesday. I feel that the schedule now is a lot better than the previous one, especially since it is much easier to read in the mobile version instead of having to zoom in.
