Week 8B: March 18

Today in class we had a full critique of our subpages and adjustments made to homepage. Everyone was satisfied with the changes I have made since our homepage critique, and enjoyed the layout of my schedule in terms of how easy it would be to read on mobile, as I mentioned in my last post. Some helpful suggestions I received includes:

- change dropdown for 2016 Show (2016 Show is shown twice in tablet and mobile version, but is fine in desktop for some reason)

- change size of links
- change date images to dynamic text (better for google searches)
- eliminate lines between date layers
- change color of pig icon under top image (blends in with image, hard to see)
- ADD FAVICON

Week 8A: March 16

Today in class, my professor looked at my subpage, and steered me in the right direction with figuring out how to design my schedule more creatively. It was also suggested to not use the image slider on the subpage since it is already seen on the home page, and instead just use a still image. Below you will see the adjustments I made to the website in preparation for the final critique on Wednesday. I feel that the schedule now is a lot better than the previous one, especially since it is much easier to read in the mobile version instead of having to zoom in.

Spring Break

Over Spring Break, I worked on my subpage for the Farm show site, and made adjustments to my homepage as well based off of suggestions from the class. I managed to figure out how to change the color of my navigation bar, thanks to my super smart software engineer boyfriend, who has helped with that and the javascript in my image slider. The subpage wasn't extremely difficult to do since I already had a central design established. I feel like there could be a better way to display the schedule versus the usual table layout, but I am still figuring that part out.

Week 7B: 3/04

Today in class, we did a full critique on each others' homepages. For mine, some of the suggestions I received include:

- Take dividing lines out on mobile
- change blue color
- need home page button on navigation bar
- change color of rollover links
-look at similar typefaces for headers and titles (one that I don't have to pay for, unlike the one I have on there now)

I have made adjustments to some of those suggestions in class, such as changing the blue color, adding a homepage button to the nav bar, and changed my typeface. I like this new typeface a lot and feel that it adds to the theme that I am aiming for, and will incorporate it into my logo.

Homework:
- show progress on subpage by Monday after break
- subpage due wed 3/18
- Find 5 non profit websites that are poorly designed to redesign for next project

Week 7A: 3/02

Today in class, we did a round robin critique and rotated around the room, looking at others' websites and writing down a piece of advice or praise about the design of the website. I received a good amount of feedback, and I plan on using some of that to improve the quality of my website. I even came up with the idea of adding the sillouette of a farm animal as a divider in the page, as you can see below.

Week 6: Outside of Class

This weekend outside of class, I worked on getting close to finishing my homepage. I was also emailed the slider that I would like to add into my site, which I believe is a great addition, since my original idea was to emphasize the imagery to show what the Farm Show has to offer. I got rid of the colored placement boxes, as I feel that they were too much of a distraction. I feel that it still needs a bit of work, but I hope that my classmates can offer some guidance come Monday.

Week 6B: 2/25

Today in class I discussed the matter of my website with the professor. I showed the Caret and Piet Hein website that inspired me, but it was unfortunately determined that there is just too much in terms of very complicated coding that would need to be done in order to implement such unique features. If I had the entire semester and a few team members there is the possibility of it being able to be implemented, but since I am crunched for time by myself, I am choosing an easier route.

I did receive help with my navigation bar on the top of the screen, which stretches the length of the screen, has my logo in the middle and stays stationary at the top of the screen while scrolling through the page. I also enjoy the layout of the nav bar when it is shrunk down to mobile size, which is exactly how I sketched it to look in my wireframe sketches.

 Homework:
-Over the weekend we must finish the overall design of our homepages, since it is due finally by next Wednesday, March 4th. Our subpages are due after spring break

Week 6A: 2/23

Today in class, we worked further on our websites, while each of us received individual feedback. I am due for my feedback next class, and I feel that I am still in need of some direction, since I did not change much around.
